Multi-agency information sharing
Recent developments in public policy have seen a strong focus
on co-ordinating across a range of services, (not least between
health and social care) to deal with increasingly complex
problems requiring integrated support for vulnerable adults and
children. This agenda was re-emphasised by the Green Paper
‘Independence Well Being & Choice’ (2005), while there are also
clear messages of shared responsibilities for reduction in local
health inequalities in ‘Choosing Health’ (2004). Both of these
require joint planning in response to a co-ordinated and
evidence-based assessment of local need. Effective information
sharing is key to making progress in these areas.
Portico and
Care
Equation work together to provide support across the whole
integrated agenda of health and social care.
The areas we work together on include:
- Identifying information requirements
- Developing information strategies
- Developing information sharing
- Making use of information to support policy
- Priority setting
- Planning
- Performance monitoring
Our work at a national level with the Department of Health on
information sharing and performance management issues has given
us an understanding of national policy and IT developments, but
our focus is always on finding practical ways forward.
