Education - Technical Services and the Quartz System

More about services and systems in the education sector

Technical & consultancy services

In addition to the Quartz system, we offer a range of technical and consultancy services for awarding organisations and their partners. Technical work can be in conjunction with the Quartz system, for example integration between Quartz and other local systems, or independently such as new bespoke developments or advice on IT matters.  Many of the consultancy and technical services described on this web site are relevant to the education sector; specific examples of our work for awarding organisations are given below.

  • For the National Open College Network and its constituent OCNs we developed an Information and IT Strategy and were subsequently commissioned to develop an operational system "OPUS" which we implemented across the 28 constituent OCNs.
  • For a consortium of four awarding bodies we developed an on-line unit bank providing secure web-based access to units for the organisations and providing them with a key tool in their development and management of qualifications.
  • For North Wales OCN we carried out a strategic review of partial achievement tracking.
  • Implementation services related to the OPUS system and Quartz (but applicable to other situations) have been provided to many clients.  These include:

     - Project Management
     - Business process mapping and review
     - Data cleansing and data migration
     - Change management planning
     - User and technical training
     - Advice on technical infrastructure & assessment of technical options

  • We have provided wider IT support for some of the awarding organisations using OPUS and the Quartz system.  This has included helping with resource planning and recruitment for technical staff, establishing local IT infrastructure, managing and rationalising 3rd party technical services and support arrangements to simplify and enable cost savings, providing support and development for websites and electronic communications.
