Options appraisals and evaluations
Portico combines consultancy and technical skills to carry
out a range of studies and evaluations for our clients.
Areas of work include:
- Development of technical and IT strategies
– this may cover organisation-wide requirements or look at
specific business areas (e.g. infrastructure, operations,
etc.), or specific technical areas (e.g. network and
communications infrastructure, web-technologies, etc.).
- Evaluation of potential technologies and
technical approaches, for example assessing potential
technology options and reporting on: fit with existing
systems/infrastructure; implications for migration; risks
and resilience; initial and ongoing costs; training, skills
and staff resource implications; support
requirements/issues; competitive value/threat; etc.
- Technical input to business cases,
including a review of options, and assessment of risks and
benefits from a technical perspective. Input may also be
valuable at the PID stage of projects to ensure that
technology assumptions are valid and achievable.
- Detailed technical evaluations of systems
and vendors, this may include: functional and technical
evaluation of systems; evaluation of vendor design and
development methodologies; assessment of skills and resource
capacity; review of technical and functional development
plans; assessment of version and release management;
customer support processes and performance; and review of
technical strategy.
- IT staffing and service reviews. The need
to review internal and outsourced IT arrangements may be
driven by changes in major systems or technology, concerns
over performance or value for money, or more general
financial pressures. We can provide an independent
view, considering current and forecast service requirements,
best practice and benchmark performance, and the potential
range of options to meet the organisations business
requirements. Portico can also help with planning and
managing the transition to new structures or service
arrangements where required.
