Data Management and Reporting
Data management and reporting services, particularly in the
public sector, is a major area of our technical work. The
range of work spans from providing specialist support to
in-house information teams through to setting up and supporting
enterprise-wide data management and reporting solutions.
We can provide bespoke services or work with our clients to help
them specify and procure commercial reporting or data
warehousing systems.
There is often an overlap with ‘consultancy’ services, for
example, working with management teams to develop an information
and performance culture which utilises and drives developments
in information access and analysis.
Examples of our work in this area are:
- Design, implementation, and support of
numerous data warehouse solutions. Implementations
have typically consolidated data from one or more major
operational systems and other information sources.
Most projects have also included elements of technical
procurement and/or implementation, together with programme
and change management activities. In the public sector
we have developed data warehouse solutions for acute and
other NHS Trusts, strategic health authorities, and shared
services organisations.
- Specialist Reporting and ETL (Extract,
Transform & Load) Services – supporting NHS Trusts to load
local warehouses from national system data offloads, and
preparing and publishing suites of standard and local
reports for performance management and operational support.
- Development and maintenance of Business
Objects ‘Universes’ and implementation of associated
Business Objects reporting tools to give business end-users
(i.e. strictly non-technical staff) the ability to create
simple and very complex reports combining tables, graphs,
etc into traditional or ‘dashboard’ style reports.
- Provision of a reporting and analysis
service based on the use of Microsoft’s Reporting Services.
We have worked with clients to establish suites of standard
reports and provide ongoing support to develop in-house
skills whilst meeting the demand for ad hoc analysis.
- Various reviews of existing reporting
arrangements and data warehouses along with assessments of
options for their improvement or replacement. These
have often been in the context of NHS Trusts’ preparations
for CRS (Care Records Service) implementation, and have
included alignment with CRS and integration with data
migration planning and legacy data archiving and management.
- Development and assessment of options for
providing consolidated reporting across a newly created
mental health trust, formed from 3 existing trusts.
- Related consultancy assignments include
national work on data extraction from General practice
systems to provide a national consolidation and analysis
services to support a range of stakeholders in health
improvement, public health, and other research.
